Effect of Nonsurgical Periodontal Therapy on Adiponectin Levels in Type 2 Diabetics with Moderate to Severe Chronic Periodontitis-A Pilot Trial

Background Adiponectin is a novel adipocyte-specific protein, which plays an important role in decreasing insulin resistance and inflammation, hence can be considered understanding the underlying mechanisms of both diabetes periodontitis. As periodontitis mellitus share common pathways pathogenesis, this study was conducted to determine effect nonsurgical periodontal therapy on adiponectin levels type 2 diabetics with moderate severe chronic Material Methods Ten poorly controlled (hemoglobin A1c [HbA1c] ≥ 6.5%) (test group) 10 age, sex, body mass index matched systemically healthy patients (control were recruited.
